Parent Consultation Sessions
Partnering With Parents to Support Children
What is a Parent Consultation Session?
Parent consultation sessions are dedicated time for parents/caregivers (you) to meet with the therapist (me) without the child present. These sessions focus on supporting parents as an essential part of their child’s therapeutic journey. Rather than therapy about the child, these meetings are a collaborative space to better understand your child’s needs and how to support them at home.
What can I expect?
Caregivers can expect a warm, supportive space where questions are encouraged and real-life challenges can be talked about openly. Sessions focus on learning practical parenting tools, better understanding your child’s emotions, responding calmly to big feelings, and strengthening connection and consistency at home..
What happens during the parent consultation session?
During parent consultations, we work together to share insights from therapy, explore patterns that may be impacting your child’s emotions or behavior, and discuss what your child may be communicating through their actions or play. Parents are offered guidance, education, and practical strategies rooted in therapeutic and developmentally appropriate parenting approaches.
Expected Outcomes
Outcomes of parent consultation sessions may include:
Greater understanding of your child’s emotional and developmental needs
Increased confidence in responding to behaviors with connection and clarity
Stronger parent-child relationships
Practical tools to support emotional regulation and healing at home
Alignment between therapy goals and daily parenting interactions
And Lastly,
Parent consultation sessions are a key part of the therapeutic process, helping ensure that growth and progress extend beyond the therapy room and into everyday family life. These sessions typically take place every 4th or 5th session.
